Bret Bowers
Jerald Bret Bowers - "Bret"

When were you first introduced to tennis?
In my Dad's subdivision tennis courts behind our house in Summerville, South Carolina, in the summer of 1982.

What inspired you to continue tennis?
My immediate love for the the game of tennis and my competitive nature as an athlete. I loved the competitive, individual aspect of the game with all the outcome and pressure placed on the individual, instead of having to rely on others to win.

What do you do for fun (other than tennis)?
Hanging out with my wife and kids, watching my favorite TV programs; Playing on the computer (Facebook), watching and attending sporting events, movies, the outdoors and photography.

What are some accomplishments you are most proud of?

  • Developing 3 successful Junior Tennis Academies in 3 different states; Atlanta, California & Oregon.
  • Developing, mentoring and coaching a 15 year old high school student, that achieved a Division I status in less than 3 years (student was ranked #1 in Boy's 16 PNW Challengers, Top 20 in Boy's 18 PNW Champs and as a Division III Freshman - was voted 1st Team All Northwest Conference (#1 singles & Doubles) and as a Sophomore, he was recruited to play on a NCAA Big Sky Conference, Division I Tennis team).
  • As a USTA Junior, obtaining a top 20 junior ranking in South Carolina, after 1 year of playing tennis with no formal instruction or coaching.
  • Playing for Summerville High School varsity tennis team 1982-1984.
  • Receiving a tennis scholarship to play on a Nationally Ranked Junior College Tennis Team (Central Florida Community College)in 1984.
  • Playing #2 seed singles for C.F.C.C. and obtaining a National JCCAA Singles Ranking as a freshman.
  • Playing on a pre-season #1 nationally ranked tennis team (C.F.C.C 's year ending national team ranking was #5).
  • Playing for 2 years on the Semi-Pro tennis tour (unfortunately, injuries ended my playing career).
  • I am most proud of the players I have coached, old and young, that I have had the privilege to teach, mentor, inspire and develop, both personally and professionally on and off the court, that have given me a career purpose and many feelings of self achievement for 22 years and counting.
